George Thomas Butler

George Thomas Butler, Sr., 77, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Multitudes Church officiated by the Rev. Opie Swails.  Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry Sellers Butler of the home; daughter, Melanie Butler Hester (Curt) of Laurel Hill; son, Tony Butler (Lynnette) of Laurinburg; sisters Dixie Mancil (Alan) of Laurinburg and Vaun Seale Johnson of Wilmington; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, George Thomas “Tommy” Butler, Jr., brother, Larry Butler, and sisters, Joyce Lamont and Shirley Finch.

Born May 14, 1939 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late George Washington and Jessie Revels Butler.  George served with the US Army and received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Richmond Community College.  He was a former department manager of J.P. Stevens and later was the owner and operator of Thomas Butler Auto Sales.

Visitation will be Monday, November 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
