George Maxwell

George Edward Maxwell, 66, of Laurinburg, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Scotland Regional Hospice.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

George was born on April 30, 1959, in Beckley, West Virginia, and he was a son of the late George Washington and Viola Mills Maxwell. George enjoyed reading the Bible, studying religion, and attending churches whenever he could. He loved going out to eat, flirting, telling dad jokes, fishing, and hearing about his grandchildren. He would give his last dollar to anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his children, April Burchett (Scott) of California, Miranda Lilly, and Brandon Maxwell both of West Virginia; grandchildren, Amethyst Wright, Samuel Burchett, Victor Burchett, Kian Lilly, Arianna Lilly, and Ashton Lilly; sisters, Belinda Dawson, Lesa Brown (James) Faye McKinney (Larry), Cathy McKinney; brothers, Donnie Maxwell (Paula), and Wayne Maxwell; step grandchild; Rose Burchett; step great-grandchild, Elliot Lusk; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Patsy Maxwell; granddaughter, Emerald Wright; and brother, Frank Maxwell.
