George T. Martin
George T. Martin, 80, a resident of Essington, PA died February 2, 2007 at his residence surrounded by his wife Bette, stepson Dan, and ever faithful dog, Rusty.
Born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Mary Martin. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Albert Martin. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bette) Martin, daughter, Dr. Suzanne Martin of Pinehurst, NC; and his sons, Kevin Martin of West Chester, PA and Christopher Martin of Douglasville, PA. Also surviving him are his sisters, Mary Porter of Asheville, NC and Nellie York of Rockingham, NC, 8 stepchildren and 4 grandchildren.
At the age of 17, like many men his age during WWII, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country on the U.S.S. Nashville where he served as a Pharmacist Assistant. In addition to surviving 2 kamikaze attacks, his ship held the distinction of transporting General Douglas MacArthur on his triumphant return to the Philippine Islands.
Mr. Martin attended both the College of Pharmacy and St Josepha
