Gary Kenneth Wright

Dr. Gary K. Wright, 62, professor of Music Education in Choral Studies at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, as well as director of the Chancel Choir at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, died Friday, August 20, 2010 from a brain aneurysm.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and Thursday following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

He leaves behind his wife, Kathryn Dahl Wright, his three children, Tamara Spurgeon of Fresno, CA, Torin Wright of Seven Lakes, NC, and Timon Wright of San Francisco, CA; his father, Kenneth Wright of Southern Pines, his brother, Steven Wright of Pacifica, CA, and five grandchildren, Trevor Spurgeon, Keegan Spurgeon, Sutton Spurgeon, Samara Wright, and Tylor Wright.

Dr. Wright was born in Monroe, MI on January 10, 1948 and shortly thereafter moved to Stockton, CA where he lived for 48 years and served at Choral Director at Lincoln High School for 25 years.

His passions were his teaching, music, good friends and sitting on his back porch with a good book looking at the quiet of the lake that he and his wife both loved. He cherished his time spent with every member of his family. He had such a love of adventure and enjoyed learning to do things he had never done, and helping others at a moment's notice. Gary lived life to the fullest.
