Garry Thomas Blake, 73, of Mt. Gilead passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mt. Gilead, officiated by Rev. James Brigman. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service in Troy prior to the graveside service.
Born April 30, 1952, in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Travis and Jeanette Frix Blake. Garry was a man of honor and strength, having served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He was a huge NASCAR fan. His fur babies, Sage and Archie, were always by his side.
An avid tinkerer, Garry found joy working on computers, often losing himself in the challenge of solving technical puzzles. His love for military movies was an extension of his service, a way to connect with his past. Garry enjoyed fishing which provided him with moments of reflection and relaxation. His experiments and culinary creations on his Pit Master Grill were a source of pride and enjoyment, not just for him but for all who had the pleasure of tasting his dishes.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonia B. Castle of Mt. Gilead; son, Daniel Blake of the home; one sister and one brother; and grandchildren, Thomas Castle of Taylorsville, and Tyler Castle and Makayla Castle, both of Mt. Gilead. Garry was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Darlene Kearns Blake, and sister, Betty Reynolds.
Bumgarner Family Funeral Service is serving the Blake family.
