Franklin Monroe Shippy

Franklin Monroe Shippy, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his residence.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Born July 5, 1940 in Luce County, MI, he was a son of the late Kenneth Leland and Bernice Monroe Shippy.  He began his military career in the US Army and later retired from the US Air Force in 1984 having earned the rank of Sr. Master Sergeant.  Mr. Shippy also served two tours in Vietnam and enjoyed his time in Turkey and Germany.  After retirement, he was a Corrections Officer with the Texas Department of Corrections.  He loved hiking, camping, outdoors, fishing, shooting and was a survivalist.  Mr. Shippy was a very smart man and would give you the shirt off of his back.

He is survived by his daughter, Kandice Shippy VeraCovarrubias of Trinity; his son, Christopher Franklin Shippy of Mocksville; his granddaughter, Crystal Blackwell of Charlotte; and his nephew, Michael LaFaver.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Mitice Shippy; sisters, Sonja Peterson and Claudia LaFaver.
