Frankie "Hawk" James Owens, a cherished soul known affectionately as Hawk, left this earthly life on May 21, 2024, at the age of 63. Born on August 7, 1960, in the heart of Scotland County to his parents, Tommy James and Lillie Mae Jones Owens, and he departed us in Montgomery County, having lived a life marked by devotion to his community, faith, and the simple pleasures of the natural world. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Wayne Owens.
Hawk's commitment to service was evident through his educational pursuits from Montgomery Community College, culminating in an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology, along with Basic Law Enforcement Training. His passion for justice and community safety led him to a distinguished 18-year career with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. As Deputy Sheriff Hawk Owens, Badge #112, he became a respected figure, known for his integrity, bravery, and unwavering dedication to the citizens he vowed to protect.
Beyond the badge, Hawk was a man of profound faith, serving as the Pastor of Lomax Memorial Baptist Church. His devotion to God was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's trials and triumphs. Hawk's faith-filled spirit was a beacon of hope and inspiration to his congregation, and his sermons will be remembered for their depth, compassion, and ability to touch the hearts of all who heard them.
Hawk's love for God's creatures was as vast as his love for his community. A true animal enthusiast, he found joy and solace in the company of his beloved animals. His chickens, peacocks, emus, and rottweilers were more than just pets; they were a part of his family, each holding a special place in his heart. Hawk's nurturing spirit ensured that every animal in his care thrived and was cherished.
An outdoorsman at heart, Hawk's zest for life was reflected in his numerous hobbies. Whether tending to his yard, painting, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, he had to always be busy, engaging with the world around him with a vigor that was contagious. His presence outdoors was as commanding as it was calming, and the landscapes he tended and created will stand as a testament to his hard work and love for the environment.
Upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Department, Hawk did not slow down. Instead, he poured even more of himself into his interests, his church, and his family. His example of a life well-lived, grounded in faith and the joy of everyday moments, will endure in the memories of those who knew him. Hawk and Tammy’s love for each other was evident as they spend time together inspiring others with their devotion to one another, through his ministry, and tending to their animals.
