A devoted member of the First Baptist Church for over 60 years, Evelyn ministered to others through her Fidelis Sunday School class, Women's Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School, her Bereavement Committee, and other activities of the church. She toiled cheerfully and tirelessly, and felt especially blessed to serve bereaved families meals and spend quality time with them. Always a faithful visitor in nursing homes, she often surprised patients with crackers, cookies, and other treats.
Evelyn loved her family and spending time with them was her greatest joy. She served others tirelessly all of her life – through childcare at her Toddler House days or at the salad bar at Scotland High School. She counseled and cajoled many students who knew her affectionately as "Grandma."
Memorials are requested for the First Baptist Church, PO Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
