Mrs. Essie Dell Chavis Bowyer, 88, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Morrison Manor.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Left to cherish her memories are her children; sons Tony Bowyer of Laurel Hill, Michael Bowyer and wife, Ann of Laurel Hill; daughters Jean Brown and husband, Art of Laurinburg, Christine Roberts of Laurel Hill, Carolyn Bowyer of Greenwood, MS, Hilda Roberts of Leland, MS, Lois Bowyer of Cornelius; Pat Roberson and husband, Garry of Laurinburg; daughter-in-laws, Linda Troutman and husband John of Laurinburg; and Linda Lewis Bowyer of Laurel Hill; fourteen grandchildren, Kim Brown of Aberdeen, Cindy Russell of Virginia, Chuck Bowyer of Laurinburg, Robin Nuzzo of Seven Lakes, Debbie Knight of Raleigh, Tim Roberts of Laurel Hill, Lin Roberts of Greenville, MS, Art Brown, Jr. of West End, Amy Ostrander of Ellisville, MS, Kirstie Jorgensen of Laurinburg, Eric Bowyer of Rocky Mount, Tara Soles of Laurinburg, Chad Roberts of Leland, MS and Jill Baugus of Holly Springs; 22 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roland Charles Bowyer, Sr.; sons, Charles Bowyer, Jr. and Cecil Bowyer; daughter, Sally Bowyer, granddaughter, Tana Ward; sisters, Geneva Chavis, Ollie Griffin, Viola McLaughlin, and Evelyn Peele, and sons-in-law, Wilson Roberts and Linwood Roberts.

Mrs. Bowyer was born March 26, 1921 in Gibson, a daughter of the late Grover C. and Betty Elizabeth Caulder Chavis. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a charter member and a lifetime faithful member of North Laurinburg Baptist Church. Essie also enjoyed sending cards on special occasions to family and friends.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
