Emma Gertrude "Gert" Briggs Brooks, 90, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15th at the First Baptist Church, Laurinburg, officiated by the Rev. Wayne Wike. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
She is survived by two sons, Wade Brooks and wife Elaine of Florence, SC, Clayton Brooks and wife Suma of Laurinburg; two daughters, Barbara B. Mudd of Hamlet, NC , Betty B. Holt and husband Bob of Beaufort, SC; Six grandchildren and Ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton W. Brooks, Sr.
Born July 29, 1924 in Mecklenburg County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Prichard Briggs and Rosa Bell Coley Briggs. "Gert" and her husband owned and operated Brooks Supermarket and Brooks Restaurant in Laurinburg for many years. She was also very active working in the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Scotland County.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
