Emily Elliot Mcmillan Mccoy

December 15, 1916 — November 21, 2015

Emily Elliot McMillan McCoy, 98, of Greenville, SC died on November 20, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Greenville.

Born in Scotland County near Laurinburg, NC on December 15, 1916, the third of eight children of the late Joseph Archibald and Katherine Elliot Patterson McMillan. She graduated from Laurinburg High School and attended Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC. She then attended business college in Washington, DC and worked as a government secretary. Here she met James Benjamin McCoy, Jr. of Camden, SC, and they married in June of 1939. Prior to her marriage she worked at the North Carolina Parole Office in Raleigh, NC, and later she worked for Brown Construction Company in Concord, NC. For the majority of her life she worked at home caring for her husband and children.

Survivors include two children, James Benjamin (Ben) McCoy, III (wife Mary Beth) of Fayetteville, NC and Anne Evans McCoy Nuttall (husband Carl) of Greenville, SC; four grandsons, Joseph Booth McCoy (wife Lena), of Alexandria, VA, Michael Ross McCoy (wife Kaya) of Miami, FL, Stephen Russell Nuttall (wife Leslie), James Arthur Nuttall of Greenville, six great-grandchildren and a sister, Eliza Pat Butler of Laurinburg.

Mrs. McCoy was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC, and a life-long active member of the Presbyterian Church.
