Mr. Emerson Matthew Cottingham, 72, of 13181 Church Street died Saturday, August 25, at Windsor House in Rockingham.


Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday at the Gibson United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Harold Salmon. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.


He is survived by his wife, Lula Dell Adams Cottingham, a Son, Robert Cottingham of Decatur, GA; a daughter, Emmie Lou Grooms of Rockingham; three grandchildren, Matthew Liles, Adam Liles, and Grey Grooms.


Born July 10, 1929 in Clio, SC, he was a son of the late Walter James and Eva Carabo Cottingham. He served as police chief in Gibson for over 20 years.


Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 of Gibson United Methodist Church, PO Box 121, Gibson, NC 28343.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.
