Mrs. Elsie Williams Leach, 74, of 410 Johns Road died Tuesday, August 4, 2009.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, John B. Leach; two sons, Jim Leach of Wilmington and John A. Leach of Brunswick, MD, a daughter, Delta Giles of Clayton; a brother, Billy Williams of Laurinburg; two sisters, Nancy Mason of Wilmington and Paula Warren of Greer, SC; seven grandchildren, Cooper Giles, Tammy Bundy, Caitlyn Giles, Stephanie Leach, Ryan Leach, Mary Elizabeth Leach, and John A. Leach, Jr.; a great grandchild, Aidan Giles; and her beloved dog, Fifi. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Leach.
Born July 26, 1935 in Marlboro County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Rowland Dora Norton Williams. In her early years she was employed at the old Commercial Café in Laurinburg. Afterwards, she returned to school an became a LPN and later served diligently with Drs. James and May in Hamlet and later with Hamlet Hospital where she retired.
She was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, She was also a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Make a Wish Foundation, and she and her husband started Scotland County Military Retirees in the 1980's.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
