Ellen (Buffkin) Stanley

Ellen Buffkin Stanley, 91, formerly of Troy, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, September 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Troy, officiated by Dr. Jeff Hartman and Dr. Wayne Wike.  Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Due to Covid-19, we still ask that all attendees please wear a mask and practice social distancing when possible.

Born November 11, 1929 in Columbus County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lucretia Turbeville Buffkin.  She held a Master’s Degree in Reading, and minored in French and Library Science.  She also had an Undergrad Degree in English.  She worked in the Montgomery County School System for over 30 years.  Mrs. Stanley was a member of First Baptist Church in Troy for 50 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Laurinburg since 2013.  She loved books, art, cooking and being a homemaker for her husband and children.  She especially loved her family, friends and her churches.  Everyone meant the world to her.

She is survived by three daughters, Suellen Stanley Arnett and husband, Gary of Laurinburg, Vicki Lee Stanley of Raeford, and Anne Stanley Myers and husband, David of Laurinburg; two grandsons, David Scott Myers II (Natalie) and Michael Stanley Myers (Magen); one granddaughter, Shandi Arnett Webb (Jason); and two great grandchildren, Carley Elizabeth and Abbey Renee Webb.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Herbert Earl Stanley and her son, Herbert Earl “Stan” Stanley, Jr.
