Troy

Ella Ruth McLeod McIntosh, of Troy, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Myrtle Beach Grove in South Carolina.  She was surrounded by her wonderful girls.

The service will be held Friday, January 3, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Troy with Dr. Phillips McRae and Pastor Nick Allen officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Interment will follow the service at Southside Cemetery, Troy, NC.

Ruth was born on October 1, 1943, to Neill Archie and Asby Vest McLeod in Carthage, NC.  She spent her childhood and school years enjoying time with family, friends, and church. As a Carthage Bulldog, her beautiful smile and personality was on display as she served as head cheerleader and was chosen as Homecoming Queen.  After graduating from high school, Ruth attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College, graduating in 1965 with a degree in elementary education.  Later, Ruth earned her master’s degree in education.  After moving to Troy, NC, she proudly spent her 35-year teaching career at Troy Elementary School.  During this time, she taught and loved thousands of 5th grade children.  These children grew into wonderful adults who continued to brighten her days by speaking to her, calling her, and writing her to express their love and gratitude.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy, NC where she loved serving and worshiping her Lord. She enjoyed her Vota Vita Sunday School class, her fun time with the Choir, the WMU, and her involvement in so many committees. She was a past member of the Troy Mothers Club, the Troy Woman’s Club, her local Book Club, Friends of the Library, NCAE, and many other educational and civic groups.  Ruth loved all things that are pretty and sweet - music, painting, flowers, books, coffee and cake, shiny things, children, perfume, birds, glassware, pink, friends, and her family.

Other than her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Vannoy McIntosh. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Picerno, and brother, Neill Archie McLeod, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Lane Morgan of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Linda Phillips of Carthage; two granddaughters, Emma Caviness and husband, Andy of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Allie Morgan of Myrtle Beach, SC; two great-grandchildren Junie and Luke Caviness of Myrtle Beach, SC.
