Mrs. Elizabeth (Lib) Howell Strickland, 87, of Laurinburg departed this life on Sunday, March 17, 2012 and entered her eternal home.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel, officiated by Rev. Earl Henderson, Rev. Leander "Skip" Blackmon and Brother Ronnie Fields. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons, William "Ronnie" Culbreth and wife Carol of Cleveland TN and Ricky Dean Strickland of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Kathy Miller Locklear and husband, Ronald of Laurinburg, Mrs. Nellie Hardy of Laurinburg and Mrs. Mable Nance of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Angela Michelle Locklear of Fayetteville; a grandson, William "Shane" Culbreth of Wadesboro; 2 special great grandchildren, Chayton Elizabeth Hall of Liberty and Memphis Shane Culbreth of Laurinburg; a special cousin, Dot Zielinski. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.

Lib was born August 3, 1925 in Scotland County, a daughter of the late Sims Howell, Sr. and Maggie Penny Howell.. She was predeceased by her husband, Buck Strickland, a son, Henry Wayne Strickland; two brothers, Sims Howell, Jr. and Jack Howell; and a sister, Grace Thompson.

Elizabeth and her husband built Strickland's Grocery in 1950. She operated the store for more than 25 years of which she sold groceries and gas. She enjoyed cooking for her family always preparing a special birthday dinner for them and making her sweet potatoe pie for her friends. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Wade Locklear. She attended the Scotland County Schools. She was a devoted wife , mother, grandmother and friend. Lib will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
