Mr. Eli Fairley Murray, Jr., 92, of 19381 Old Wire Road passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 22, after checking on his cattle.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Howard Whitehurst. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Christiansen and husband, Marc of Wagram; a granddaughter, Jennifer McRae and husband, Jonathan of Greensboro; a grandson, Eli McRae of Greensboro.
Born August 24, 1914 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Eli F. and Belle Cooley Murray. He started school at Temperance Hall in Wagram, graduated from Wagram High School and attended Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton. He served as a heavy artillery operator with the US Army in Europe during World War II.
Eli was a life long farmer, once farming cotton, tobacco, hogs, and cattle. He was still a cattle farmer. He served as Elder Emeritus, as a choir member, and as a mena
