Mr. Elbert Lee Jones, Sr., 78, of 407 S. Austin Street died Thursday, February 19, at his home.
A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Norvin Forester. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
He is survived two sons, Jackie Jones and Lee Jones of Maxton; one sister, Gracie King of Rural Hall, NC; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Edna Jones.
Born April 5, 1926 in Wayne County, he was a son of the late Ashley and Eva Odum Jones. He was the owner and operator of Liberty CafAC. for 21 years and was also the hardware manager at Maxton Supply for 10 years. Mr. Jones was a Charter Member of the Maxton Rescue Squad and the Maxton Fire Chief for 17 years. He was a member of the American Legion and served as a post commander. In addition he formerly served as a former Deacon and financial secretary of the First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
