Mr. Edwin August Roth, 88, died Friday April 2, 2004 at Scotia Village.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 9, 2004 at First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial with Masonic Rites will be 2:00 pm Saturday April 10, 2004 at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
Mr. Roth was born October 9, 1915 in Long Island, New York, he was a son of the late August and Elsie Grolz Roth. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1932, and then worked for Virginia Engineering Company until he was drafted. He spent four years in the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He resumed employment with Virginia Engineering Company, later known as Basic Construction Co. for a total of 40 years of service. Edwin was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Demolay and a member of Annapolis Masonic Lodge #89. He was a life member and Master Mason of Masonic Lodge, Bryan Co. #303 F & AM and was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Savannah, Georgia Shriner. He was also a member and instructor for the US. Coast Guard Auxilliary.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jewel Wampler Roth of Laurinburg; a son, Joe Wampler and wife, Gail of Laurinburg; a daughter, Diane Roth Alderman and husband, Duane of Bland, VA; a sister, Grace Roth Hartge of Arnold, MD; sister-in-law, Frances King of Tybee Island, GA; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
