BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. - Edward Winston Miller Jr., 70, died Sunday, July 23, 2006 in Bennettsville. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Jeanette Walker Miller.
Mr. Miller was a life-long resident of Bennettsville. He was the son of the late Edward Winston and Lilyon Walker Miller. He graduated from Bennettsville High in 1954 and attended Wake Forest University.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McCall Cemetery, Bennettsville.
Winston is survived by: four sons, Edward W. Miller III (Jennifer) of Augusta, GA; John Nathaniel Walker Miller of Atlanta, GA; Rogers Van Dyke Miller of Alexandria, VA; and Christopher Andrew Miller (Lisa) of Salem, VA; four grandsons, Benjamin Winston Miller and Zachary John Miller of Augusta, GA; and Richard Nathaniel Miller and Jacob Dalton Miller of Salem, VA.; two brothers, Charles Alexander Miller (Janice) of Travelers Rest, SC, and James Rogers Miller (Frances) of Greensboro, GA.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He worked for many years at JP Stevens, BASF Corp and FabriColor in the textile dye industry.
Winston led a life of service and devotion to his family and community.
In 1960, he was a co-founder of the all-volunteer Marlboro County Rescue Squad. He was among a small group of dedicated men who worked tirelessly to organize and raise money for the much needed emergency service for the people of Marlboro County. Today the squad is one of South Carolinaa
