Edith Arey Womble Boland

Edith Womble Boland, 93, formerly of Wagram, died Friday, February 14, 2014. She was a resident of Scotia Village.

A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Scotia Village followed by a visitation. A committal service will precede the service at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Boland. She is survived by her nephews, Marvin Womble (Cynthia) and Andy Womble (Emily) of Laurinburg, Theron Womble (Peggy) of Sanford and Nieces, Olivia Womble Griffin (Richard) of Hickory, Edith Eubanks (Jim) of Winston-Salem, Jean Wetmore (John) of Woodleaf and many other great nieces and nephews.

Edith was born May 27, 1920 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Seaton Jehu and Edith Arey Womble. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in Wagram, attended Montreat College and graduated from Flora MacDonald College with a degree in education. She taught school in Oakboro, Gibson, Aberdeen, Red Springs, Charlotte, Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, Maxton and Laurinburg, as well as Salzburg, Austria and Baumholder, Germany. She retired after 40 years, her last 17 serving as a librarian. She was a member of Montpelier Presbyterian Church where she was also a Deacon Emeritus.

Edith enjoyed reading, gardening and playing the piano.
