Dudley Poole, 73, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020 at Sharon Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, with military honors, officiated by Tony Sedberry. Due to COVID restrictions, please practice social distancing, and all attendees must wear a mask or face covering.
Born July 11, 1947 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Lex Poole and the late Stella Kelly Poole. Dudley was a US veteran who served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He was an expert gunsmith, avid fisherman, loved to farm and was a jack-of-all-trades.
He is survived by three sisters, Clara Ruth Brigman (Jimmy) of Rockingham, Viola Ewing (George) of Rockingham and Vonnie Kaye Helms (Stephan) of Mt. Gilead; four brothers, Edward Lee Poole (Gathy) of Norwood, Chester Poole of Candor, Harold David Poole of Tabor City and Melvin Bruce Poole (Kaye) of Oakboro; two brother-in-law’s, Don Blake and Grady Goforth; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Mae Blake and Alvis P. Goforth.
