Dorothy "Dot" Mae (Abernethy) Zielinski

Dorothy “Dot” Mae Zielinski, 97, died Monday, November 7, 2022 at her home.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 at East Laurinburg Baptist Church where she was a member, officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson.  Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Born in Guilford County, NC on April 13, 1925, she is the daughter of the late Elbert Clinton and Annie Mae Penny Abernethy.  She retired from Abbot Laboratories in 1987 and worked concessions at the Rockingham Motor Speedway for many years.  Ms. Zielinski, loved her food, family and taking long rides in the country.  She would shop until she dropped.

She is survived by her brother, Jack Abernethy (Dora) of Laurinburg; her sister, Helen Burdell of Columbus, GA, her son-in-law, Bob Thomas of Laurinburg; her grandchildren, Deno Thomas, Michele Hegwer (Ken) and Robie Thomas (Gail) all of Laurinburg; great grandchildren, Courtney H. Reed, Cayleigh Hegwer and James Steven Hudson; great-great grandchildren, Hailie Cummingscox, Bobby Malcolm Cox, Joshua Reed, Kenleigh Reed and Brenna Reed.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Walter, Zielinski; daughter, Lois Z. Thomas; sisters, Alleen McFadyen and Francis Herndon; and granddaughter-in-law, Lula Ann Thomas.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium.
