Mrs. Flora Doris Sanford Maddox, 94, a life-long resident of Laurinburg, passed away on Wednesday June 3. For the past several years, she has resided at Weddington Park Assisted Living and Carrington Place in Charlotte, NC to be near her daughters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Quinton Covington and Rev. Ed Briggs. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

She is survived by two daughters, Pat Culp and husband, John E. Culp and Judy Lee and husband William H. Lee of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Heather Lee of Charlotte, NC, Courtney Lee of Wilmington, NC, Dr. Laurie Culp and husband, Dr. Joey Pate of Decatur, GA and Chris Culp of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Haley Pate and Maddy Pate; three sisters-in-law, Annie Laurie Smith, Emma Neal Maddox and Gladys Sanford of Laurinburg.

Mrs. Maddox was born November 20, 1914 in Rockingham, NC. She was a daughter of the late William Wesley and Flora Campbell Sanford. The family relocated from Rockingham to Laurinburg where Doris graduated from Laurinburg High School. She met her husband, Ishmael Worth Maddox, and they were married June 18, 1936. Ishmael preceded her in death on March 21, 2002.

Doris was employed at Commercial State Bank, J.P. Stevens and Springs Mills. She and Ishmael were very active members of Central United Methodist Church where for many years Doris was their pianist. She was also very involved in the Women's Society of Christian Services.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
