Derick Austin Hunsucker

Derick Austin Hunsucker, 37, died Saturday, November 19, 2022 at UNC Chapel Hill.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Love Joy United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Justin Wells and Rev. Jeffrey Pope. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Born October 20, 1985 in Montgomery County, he was the son of James “Jimmy” Austin Hunsucker, Jr. of Mt. Gilead and Anita Scott Richardson of Troy.  He worked for Precision Textiles.  Derick was caring, loving and had a heart of gold.  He was a big ole’ teddy bear and loved his nephews dearly.  Derick enjoyed NASCAR, wrestling, classic rock-n-roll, fishing and horseshoes.

Along with his parents, he is survived by his mother, Tina Hunsucker of Mt. Gilead; his father, Kyle Richarson of Troy; his brother, Jonathan Hunsucker (Deanna) of Troy; step-sister, Megan Burleson (Drew) of Albemarle; step-brother, Jordan Lassiter (Alaina) of Albemarle; two nephews, Caden and Carter; two nieces, Kylie and Kinsley; paternal grandmother, Sue Freeman of Candor; maternal grandfather, Jimmy Scott of Troy; and paternal step-grandfather, Ray Richardson of Troy.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Austin Hunsucker; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Scott; paternal step-grandfather, Jerry Freeman; and paternal step-grandmother, Myra Richardson.
