Dawson Bryan Thompson, 21, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Holly Mount Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, officiated by Tony Sedberry and Pastor Steve Lindsey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 7, 2024 for 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service in Troy.

Born on June 27, 2003, in Stanly County, Dawson's vibrant spirit and genuine love for those around him marked the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Dawson grew up surrounded by the love and support of his family.

He is survived by his devoted father, Matthew Thompson and his wife Hope, his caring mother, Tara Lemonds and her husband Wesley, his loving sisters, Cassidy Thompson and Jennifer Byrd (Josh), and his brothers, Caleb Jones (Meredith), and Jacob Jones. His grandparents, Lacy Ray and Mary Thompson, Rex and Lynn Parnell, Neal and Joyce Parsons, and Charles McRae, along with his cherished four nephews.

From a young age, Dawson exhibited a passion for sports and a heart for community service. His commitment to local sports was evident through his active involvement in the Upward Youth Basketball program and the AAU, where he not only participated but also gave back as a referee for youth basketball and an umpire for youth baseball. Dawson's love for sports went beyond the games themselves; it was a conduit for his deeper desire to support and uplift underprivileged youth in his community.

In keeping with Dawson's giving spirit, his family will continue to support the youth sports programs that were so dear to his heart, ensuring that his passion for helping others will live on. We bid farewell to Dawson Bryan Thompson, a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend, whose light will forever shine in our memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dawson’s memory to Upward Cross Court Basketball League, Troy First Wesleyan, 1368 Hwy 134 N, Troy, NC 27371.
