Laurinburg
David Armon Williams, Jr., M. D. , 79, died peacefully Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his home.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Caledonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
He is survived by three sons, John Williams and wife, Kim of Matthews, Joe Williams and wife, Jane of Laurinburg, and David A. "Mac" Williams, III and wife Stephanie of Elon; a step sister, Barbara Evans of Goldsboro, and six grandchildren who lovingly knew him as Doc. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anne Clark Williams and a brother, Richard Williams.
Born July 31, 1930 in Scotland County, he was the son of the late David A. and Muriel Jones Williams Evans, and step son of the late Joseph Bill Evans. David was a graduate of Laurinburg High School, Davidson College, and the UNC Medical School. Afterwards he served his internship in Durham and residency in Greensboro before returning to Laurinburg and opening a private practice. He was associated with the Scotland County Health Department for 50 years. Dr. Williams was the first volunteer medical director of Hospice of Scotland County.
He enjoyed golf, pig pickin's, Macallan and Glenfiddich single malts, people with a good sense of humor, his patients, colleagues, and friends.
