David Reid McRae, 95, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Montpelier Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. John Baker, followed by a burial at Hillside Memorial Park.

Born April 5, 1923 in Hoke County, he was a son of the late Octavus John and Mary Watson McRae. Following his service in the army during WWII, he returned to Laurinburg and became an entrepreneur, running successful retail and wholesale businesses prior to developing a landscaping contract business in the 1960’s. David was a dedicated member of Montpelier Presbyterian Church. He was well known in Scotland County for his willingness to help his neighbors, friends and strangers who knew of his reputation for excellence and hard work. His kindness extended to everyone regardless of their age or background. He married Lucille Edwards and embraced her children as his own.

He is survived by his brother, Jon McRae (Karen) and children, Mary Katherine and Jon McRae III, all of Atlanta; daughter, Teresa Vick (Charles) and son, Cullen Edwards (Debbie) both of Wagram; grandchildren, Kristi, Kelly and Josh; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harry McEachin McRae and sister, Mabel Hill McRae.
