David Carol Kearns, 79, known affectionately to friends and family as Carol, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Love Joy Church in Troy, officiated by Rev. Casey Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors and Fireman’s rites.
Born on January 20, 1946, in Montgomery County, he was a son to the late Charles and Thelma Mullinix Kearns. Carol graduated from West Montgomery High School in 1964, and shortly thereafter, he honorably served his country for two years in the U.S. Army as a Military Police officer stationed in South Carolina and Georgia. His dedication to service continued long after his military tenure ended, as he became a charter member of the West Montgomery Lions Club and the Uwharrie Volunteer Fire Department. Carol had worked for the North Carolina Department of Corrections from 1982 until his retirement.
Carol was an active member of Love Joy Church. His voice was a cherished addition to the church choir, and he could often be found lending a hand at the annual men's BBQ, serving both fellowship and food with a warm smile. Carol's spirit of community service was matched only by his love for nature; he found joy in feeding the birds, tending to his yard, and cultivating his flowers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dixie Kearns of the home; son, Kevin Kearns (Jeannie) of Troy; brother, Don Kearns (Pat) of Troy; sister-in-law, Lynda Kearns of Denton; grandsons, Charlie, Cayden, and Collin; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, James M. Kearns.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Love Joy Church prior to the service and other times at the residence on 167 Morton Road.
Memorials may be made to Love Joy Church, 1137 Substation Rd, Troy, NC 27371 or Uwharrie Volunteer Fire Department, 3147 NC-109, Troy, NC 27371.
