Rev. Darrell Wayne VunCannon, age 84, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on January 29, 2022 at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Huldah Baptist Church, 7187 Old NC Hwy. 13 in Asheboro, officiated by Tony Sedberry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to Covid-19, please wear a face mask or another form of face covering and practice social distancing. Services will be livestreamed on our FaceBook page.
He was born, October 9, 1937 in High Point, NC to the late Okal and Virgie Foster VunCannon. Rev. VunCannon graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1974 and also graduated from Southeastern Seminary. During his full-time ministry, he served at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cordova Baptist Church in Rockingham and Huldah Baptist Church in Asheboro. After his retirement, he faithfully served as an interim minister at various churches. He loved his wife, family and church family. He always found more joy and humor in living and kept everyone laughing. One of his favorite bible verses was Galatians 2:20.
He was the devoted and loving husband of 67 years to Hazel Ryder VunCannon of the home, and is survived by his children, Keith VunCannon and his wife, Nancy of Hendersonville, NC, Tammy Owens and her husband, Hawk of Star, Marty VunCannon of Candor, Remelle Childers and her husband, Dale of Rockingham, and Danny VunCannon and his wife, Diane of Troy; his brother, Doug VunCannon and his wife, Myrtle of Franklinville; his sister, Tiny Steelman of High Point; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandaughter, Rebecca; his great grandson, Camden; his brothers, Roger VunCannon, Thurman VunCannon, and Thomas VunCannon; his twin sister, Rebecca VunCannon and his sister, Frances Kennedy; and his daughter-in-law, Gina VunCannon.
A visitation will be Monday, January 31, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service.
