Darrell Worth Middleton, 98, died Sunday, November 8, 2009.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Morris Morgan Room at Scotia Village officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and the Rev. Elizabeth Forester. Visitation will follow the service.
Born August 17, 1911 in Union Mill, NC he was a son of the late John P. and Minnie Lee Nanney Middleton. He served with the US Army Air Force and civil service, building ships in Virginia at the beginning of World War II. During the war he served as a historian for the Air Force in Florida and Italy.
Darrell obtained a masters degree in church business administration and served Presbyterian churches in Winston-Salem and Orlando, FL and also served as an elder, Sunday school superintendent, and choir member. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club, Civitan Club, and Golden K Club.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Kirkpatrick Middleton, three sons, Worth Middleton (Mary) of Oklahoma City, OK, John Middleton (Sondra) of Morganton, and Robert Middleton (Lisa) of Raleigh; a sister, Mildred Hart of Asheville; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
