Dannie Hugh Laviner, 90, of White Street died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Spring Hill Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Matt Harmon. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Laviner (Barbara) of Topsail Beach and Lindsay Laviner (Phyllis) of Laurinburg; a daughter, Debbie Laviner (Don Seals) of Wagram; a step-son, Warren Lexkowitz (Diane) of Bricktown, NJ; three step-daughters, Anna Marie Newkirk (Dave) of Avondale, AZ, Karen Staffreri (Mike) of Chesterfield, VA, and Cindy Sharpe (Robbie) of Wagram; grandsons, Eddie (Rachel) Morrison and Daniel (Laurel) Morrison; great granddaughters, Hailey Morrison, Ashlyn Morrison, Kaleigh Morrison, and Madison Morrison; special friends, Mark, Melody, and Kalli Ebert. He was preceded in death by his heart's loves: Myrtle Ammons Laviner, Helen Earnest, and Edith Laviner.
Dannie was born February 28, 1921 in Scotland County to the late George Elmore and Ada Hatcher Laviner. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific as an amphibious tractor driver responsible for safely landing troops ashore during battle. Returning to Scotland County, he settled in Wagram, married, and started a family with Myrtle Laviner.
Dannie spent most of his career as a mechanic for the NC Department of Transportation, and along with his brother, Elmore, they operated a lawn mowing business keeping grass cut for churches, industries, cemeteries, and residences. He also served on the Wagram Town Board, was active in the Wagram Men's Club, and the nutrition center. He was a very active member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he was a leader and Deacon for many years as well as a mentor to many.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
