Mr. Curtis Lee Ramsey, 81, of 1202 Charles Drive died Sunday, September 24, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Jerry Lowry.
Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park with his grandsons; Kevin Milligan, Brandon Peele, Benjie Milligan, Ryan Sharp, Adrian Peele, and Scott Sharp serving as pallbearers.
He is survived by two sons, Curtis L. Ramsey, Jr. of Matthews and Rodney Ramsey of Nashville; three daughters, Patsy Peele of Temple, GA, Janet Eury of Salisbury, and Judy Milligan of Laurinburg; a sister, Lorraine Ramsey of Bluefield, WV; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Born September 12, 1919 in Crumpler, WV, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Maude East Ramsey. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in Belgium and France. He was a 1948 graduate of NCSU where he was the captain of the football and baseball teams.
He came to Laurinburg as the recreation director of Waverly Mills and advanced to plant manager prior to his retirement. Curtis was a charter member and past president of the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club and active with the Key Club. He was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and served on the Athletic Council at NCSU, the board of the Scotland County Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Board of Elections. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Ed Guest Sunday School Class.
