Chrystal O. Newton, 86, died Monday, Dec. 27.



Born in Marlboro County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Murray and Ashton Hallie Odom.



She was a retired vegetable farm operator and a homemaker. She was a member of Boykin United Methodist Church, Marlboro County, S.C. where was a member of the United Methodist Women.



She was also a member of the DAR, Marlboro County Garden Club, Home Demonstration Club and a former officer in The State of S.C. Farm Bureau Association. She was a former secretary of the Newton Reunion Association.



Surviving are a daughter, Chrys "Winnie" Ward of Charlotte; five sons, Raleigh Robert "Bob" Newton, Jr. and his wife, Frances, Travis Eugene Newton and his wife, Laura, W. Marcus Newton and his wife, Vicki, Paul H. Newton all of Greenville, S.C. and David F. Newton of Ocean Isle; a sister, Audrey Newton of Marlboro County; a brother, Ashton Odom; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.



She was predeceased by her husband, Raleigh Robert Newton and a son, Ronald Lee (Bubba) Newton.



Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Locust Hill Baptist Church, Highway 290 North of Greenville with the Rev. Gene Lockaby officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.



The body will be taken to McDougald Funeral Home, Laurinburg, for services at Boykin United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Family Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boykin United Methodist Church, Box 448, Bennettsville, S.C. 29512.
