Laurinburg, NC

Col. Ret. Robert "Bob" Grubenmann, 63, of 8120 Scotch Meadows Drive died suddenly Tuesday, May 29.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday at his residence officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey and his friend, Buddy McCarter. The family will greet friends at the home following the service. Casual dress is requested.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Grubbs Grubenmann; a son, John Grubenmann of Wilmington; a daughter, Cindy Thatcher and husband, Benjamin of Knoxville, TN; a sister, Linda Seale and husband, Richard of Pine Knoll Shores; and two grandchildren.

Born October 17, 1943 in Meridan, CT, he was a son of the late Walter and Jeanette Grubenmann. Bob graduated from Wake Forest University in 1966, received a M.B.A. from Georgia State College in 1968 and spent 30 years of distinguished service with the U. S. Army reserves, living mostly in Northern Virginia. He received the Legion of Merit award, retired and returned to Laurinburg in 1999.

Bob was an industrious, well-oriented gentleman, taking pride in work that was well done. Remembering the kindness shown to his mother and father by this community, he was determined to show the same to others. He was an avid golfer, and loved yard work; taking pride in his green and clean lawn beside the 8th fairway at Scotch Meadows Country Club.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
