Coite Sherrill Parsons

Coite Sherrill Parsons of Troy, North Carolina, age 89, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Robbins, officiated by Rev. William Hancock.  Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery in Troy.

Coite was born in Montgomery County on October 15, 1932 to the late Charlie Beck and Ola McCaskill Parsons. He was the owner/operator of Parsons Machine Works for 60 years and a faithful member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 50 years.

‘Pop,’ as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, loved interacting with people, sharing his latest joke, and a good slice of pineapple upside down cake. He was a tireless worker and visionary, eager to design and build his next creation.

He had a thirst for knowledge and never stopped learning, even to the age of 89. He was passionate about reading and loved to write letters, books, and manuscripts, sharing the knowledge he gleaned while pouring over scripture.  Coite preached his own funeral every day of his life, openly and actively living out his Christian faith.

His favorite passage was I Corinthians 15:55-58

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Coite is survived by his sons, Gregory Coite Parsons and wife Donna Mask Parsons of Troy, and Phillip Sherrill Parsons and wife, Carrie Kelley Parsons of Newnan, GA; two grandchildren, Sarah Kay Parsons and Katy Gray Parsons of Raleigh; and his brothers, Mitchell Parsons of Troy and Alton Parsons of Biscoe.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ozell Haywood Parsons, and his sisters, Doris Saunders and Wilmeth Parsons.

The family will receive friends, Friday, April 29, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service
