Clorine Locklear Chavis, 90, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 at her home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, Marshall Chavis of Hamlet and Mike Chavis (Gayle) of Conway, SC; her daughters, Susie Chavis of Patrick, SC, Linda Farlow (Ed) of Ether, and Kathy Wright (Dwayn) of Laurel Hill; her brother, Thomas Locklear (Patricia) of Laurinburg; her sister, Deavie Strickland (Donnie) of Laurinburg; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Danny Lee Chavis, her sons, Houston Chavis, Danny Justin Chavis, and Ronnie Chavis; her brothers, James Archie Locklear, Linberg Locklear, and Frank Locklear, her sisters, Sally May Locklear and Mary Scott, and 4 grandsons.
Born September 15, 1925 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late James Archie and Katie Locklear. She was best known for her exceptional collards, sweet potatoes, and cakes.
When Ingraham Clock Co. opened in the 1950's, Clorine walked from John's Station to the Ingraham plant more than once to apply for a job. She got it, and continued to work for them for 47 years or until their closing.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
