Claus Marteny

Claus Marteny, 62, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022 at his residence.

Services will be private.

Born May 12, 1960, in Bamberg Germany, he was a son of the late Kenneth P. and Elvira Steffan Marteny.  Claus graduated from UNC Pembroke with a degree in teaching with an emphasis on math and served his country for 14 years in the US Army.  He worked with the USDA as a Food Inspector. He practiced in animal husbandry and always wanted to own a farm.  After the service, he was a stay at home dad to his children and enjoyed fishing. Claus would always give anyone a second chance and had a close knit group of friends; especially Cindy and Robert Sharpe.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gail Varian Marteny of the home; his daughter, Andrea Johnson and her husband, Matthew of Des Moines, IA, and his son, Nicholas Adam Marteny of the home; his sister, Heidi Miller of Scio, OH; and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Riley, Braedan and Alexis.  He is preceded in death by his son, Chad Ryan Marteny who died on the same date 30 years ago; and his brothers, Perry Kenneth Marteny and Stephen Marteny.
