Christopher Monroe Hankins went home to be with our Lord and Savior at 10:15pm Monday, November 6th. Christopher was part of a large and complicated family who all loved him dearly and who were all touched by his love and laughter.

Christopher was preceded in death by his “Nana” Doris Skaggs (adoptive mother), “Favorite Aunt” Cindy Wall, Michael McDougald (biological father), and “Poppa” Bill Nelson. Christopher was survived by his “Mom and Dad” Bob and Rhonda Nelson and brother Robert Nelson of Rockingham; Heather Brock (biological mother) of Laurel Hill; grandparents, Beacham and Lynn McDougald and sister Lizi McDougald of Laurinburg; aunt Hannah McDougald of Wilmington; great grandmothers, Midge English of Laurinburg and Hazel Todd of Rockingham; grandmother, Martha Nelson of Rockingham; brother in-law and sister Al and Sonya Covaleski; and nieces and nephew Meagan, Kaitlin and Everett Covaleski of Garland, Texas; and cousins Taylor Wall and Omar Fahmy of Rockingham.

Christopher enjoyed his school days at Cordova Middle School and his participation in the Special Olympics. He attended church at Roberdel Baptist Church and visited Harbor For Souls Ministries as well with some of his caregivers. He had an extended family of several caregivers who loved him as family and spread joy and laughter to them and their families. They will forever be part of our family.

A service to Celebrate the Life of Christopher will be held by the family at Roberdel Baptist Church Saturday morning November 11th  beginning at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Christopher wasn’t much for dressing up, so please come casual. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Christopher’s memory to Roberdel Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 1118 Richmond Rd., Rockingham, N.C. 28379.
