In Loving Memory of Charlie Tatum Vann

Charlie Tatum Vann went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2025. Born to Hubert Tatum Vann and Edna Earle Sutton Vann, Charlie lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, to his work, and to his faith.

Services will be private.

Charlie served the State of North Carolina for 25 years as an Environmental Engineer, dedicating himself to stewardship of the land he loved. In later years, he found satisfaction and independence as a self-employed truck driver. Whether at a desk or behind the wheel, he brought integrity, humility, and hard work to everything he did.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Faye Westbrook Vann, who was the joy of his heart and the center of his devotion. Their love was a daily testimony to commitment and devotion. As their daughter Lisa shared, “He loved Mama; he was a true servant to her.”

Charlie’s legacy lives on in his children:

Lisa Vann Routh (Jed), grandchildren: Eli Routh (Evyn), Nadia Smith (Cody), Sylvie Routh Ramirez (David), Samuel Routh; great-grandchildren: Cohen Smith and Emma Brook Smith

Charlie Wesley Vann (Sherry), grandchildren: Aaron Vann (Kayme), Katie Vann

George Vann (Stephanie), grandchildren: Joseph Vann, Victoria Smith (Landon), Elizabeth Vann, Marshall Vann, Naomi Vann, Lacie Bell Vann, Ada Vann; great-grandchild: Maisley Smith

Matthew Vann (Lisa), grandchild: Kyla Vann

Statements from the family

Faye: I loved our lifetime of marriage, 56 years. He was the Godliest man I have ever known. He loved God; he loved the scriptures, and he loved family. He worked daily at being obedient to God.

Lisa:   He loved his family and his animals.  There is definitely a dog with him in heaven!

Wesley:  I was his shadow as a child and he was my mentor as an adult.

George:  Dad loved the Lord with all his heart, and he loved his wife and family with no limits. He was my best friend.

Matthew: He was the most genuine man I’ve ever met.

Charlie’s favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 40:31, reflects the spirit in which he lived:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Charlie’s unwavering faith, steady presence, and boundless love have left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He will be missed deeply and remembered always.
