Charles Kenneth "Kenny" Smith, 59, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013.

A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Gene Tyson.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Gore Smith; his sons, Matt Smith, Sam Smith, and Cody Smith of Laurinburg; his brother, David Smith (Lou) of Laurinburg.

Born October 9, 1953 in Laurinburg, he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Mae Gould Vann Smith. He was a graduate of UNC-P and taught in the Scotland County elementary and middle schools for 33 years; teaching at Covington Street, North Laurinburg, Wagram, Carver and I. E. Johnson.

Kenny was an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a former coach for the Optimist league baseball, and he rarely participated in any activities that did not involve his wife and three sons. His family was his priority.

Memorials are requested for the First United Methodist Church, 101 W. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and following the memorial service in the Nettie Hammond Fellowship Hall.
