Charles Eugene "Chuck" Sligh, Jr., 49, of 411 Lanoca Avenue died suddenly Wednesday, May 19.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Wil I. Jackson.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Luxton Sligh; a daughter, Margaret Sligh of the home; his parents, Gene and Mary Lib Sligh of Laurinburg; a brother, Mac Sligh of Jacksonville, NC; a sister, Betty Leviner of Florence, SC.
A life long native of Scotland County, Chuck was a graduate of Richmond Community College and UNC-Pembroke where he received a degree in special education.
Chuck had a profound love for children and served as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. He had a keen eye for baseball talent and coached T-Ball and Little League baseball and Church League softball.
He also organized the Scotland High School class reunion for the classes of 1967, 1968, and 1969 which was held in June 1998.
An avid sportsman, Chuck also was a big fan of the UNC Tarheels, and even won an all expense trip to the Super Bowl in a sports contest.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, he was active in the United Methodist Men and the Ed Guest Sunday school class.
He was a manager for Harris-Teeter.
