Laurinburg
C. L. Witmore, Jr. 66, of 12801 Gibson Rd. died Tuesday, September 22, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Austin Witmore; three sons, Chuck Witmore and wife, Sirena of Laurinburg, Chris Witmore and wife, Liz of Lubbock, TX, and Kevin Witmore and wife, Marie of Pembroke; his mother, Katie Bullard Witmore of Laurinburg; his sister, Sally Gardner and husband, David of Laurinburg; six grandchildren, Chaz, Sherry, Eli, Claire, Lance and Emma Witmore, and a nephew, Devin Gardner.
Born May 17, 1943 in Scotland County, he was also a son of the late Charles L Witmore. He was a 1961 graduate of Laurinburg High School and attended Kings College in Charlotte. He then served for four years with the US Air Force in North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, Delaware, and Vietnam.
C. L. was employed with Laurelcrest Carpets for four years before becoming engineer with Scotland Memorial Hospital in 1970; a position he held until his retirement in 2002. Finding retirement unsuitable, he returned to Scotland Memorial Hospital in a part-time capacity in 2004.
He was an active member of the American Legion and VFW in both Laurinburg and Rockingham, was a Life Member of the Laurinburg Optimist Club, and a member of the Rockingham Shag Club.
An active member of the First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, and the Stewardship and Properties committees.
Highlights in C. L.'s life included hunting, fishing, boating, and traveling. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, family meals, and his grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
