Bruce Claudia Watts, Sr.
Bruce Claudia Watts, Sr., 85, of Greensboro, formerly of Laurinburg, died Tuesday December 28, 2010, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral for Mr. Watts will be held on Sunday, January 2, at 2:00 p.m., at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel, in Laurinburg.
Born September 6, 1925, in Robeson County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Duke William and Ola Mae Sellers Watts. Mr. Watts served his country proudly during WWII in the United Sates Navy and in Korea in the United Sates Army. Bruce was a Navy Seaman 1st Class and a Corporal in the Army. He received many decorations while serving both in the Navy and the Army, including the American Defense Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Four Battle Stars, the Occupation of Japan Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korea Service Medal, Two Bronze Stars, Distinguished Unit Citation, and the United Nations Ciatation.
Bruce also retired from Cone Mills in Greensboro.
Aside from his parents, Mr. Watts was also preceded in death by a grandson Eric Watts and his wife, Louise.
He is survived by his son, Bruce Claudia Watts, Jr. of Greensboro, a daughter, Iris Faye Cook and Husband Sam of Greensboro, two brothers, Bernie Watts of Candor, and James Watts of McLeansville, a sister, Louise Pittman of Montgomery, AL, three grandchildren, Kimberly Britt of Asheboro, Ronnie Miller of Madison, and Gina Weaver of Greensboro, and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 1, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
