Bobby "Bob" Gene Dennis

Bobby "Bob" Gene Dennis, 83, from Troy, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Croatan Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Newport, NC.

Bob was born on August 14,1940 in Montgomery County to his parents Jewell and Floyd Dennis. He is now reunited with his beautiful bride, Jessie Dennis, his parents, and his siblings: Pearl Parsons, Pauline Thompson, Ruby Maulden, Jim Dennis, Joe Dennis, Bill Dennis, and June Dennis.

Bob was a US Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Kingbird. The highlight of his career with the US Navy was proudly serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  As a civilian, Bob dedicated his career to Capel Rugs. He worked for Capel Rugs for 43 years until he retired in 2005.  When not at work, you could find Bob bowling, fishing, or playing golf.  He was an avid fan of Duke Basketball and West Montgomery High School Football and an even more avid fan of his grandchildren and all their events and successes.

Bob is survived by two sons: Dee Pennell (Nikki) of New Port Richey, FL, and Jeff Pennell (Rhonda) of Newport, NC, seven grandchildren: Cory Pennell (Savannah), Mary Beth Harb (Brad), Courtney Pennell, Tanner Pennell, Cameron Pennell, Maggie Pennell, and Taylor Pennell, and three great grandchildren: Brantley Pennell, Talleigh Pennell, and Eleanor Harb. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. To know Bob was to love Bob and his family certainly did love him.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00pm at Bumgarner Family Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lee Fish will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.
