Beverly Webb Patton, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 10th, 2024, at Scotia Village in Laurinburg, NC. She will be best remembered as a beloved teacher in Scotland County for over 40 years.
A memorial will be held Saturday, December 21st, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Laurinburg with Reverends Linda Nelson and Nancy Willard officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary after the ceremony, followed by interment at Hillside Memorial Park for the family.
She was born August 27th, 1935, to a large coal mining family in the mountain town of Anawalt, West Virginia. Surrounded by four brothers and four sisters, she developed a competitive nature and love of games and sports, which likely led to her choice of occupation as a Physical Education teacher. She also taught Social Studies and coached girls’ softball and basketball for many years, leaving a lasting impression on her many students as well as a love of learning.
She attended Concord College and graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree. It was there that she impressed a young man with her unique combination of beauty and athletic skills. Pat and Beverly were married for 67 wonderful and loving years.
An active and devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Beverly’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found joy and fulfillment in singing with the church choir, lifting her voice in praise and spreading love and warmth through her music.
“Gammie” was loved for her cooking and fun-loving nature, but above all else she will be missed for the love and care she showed her family each and every day. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Elbert “Pat” Patton; her sister, Gayle Henderson of Locust Grove, VA; her three children, Janet Hunter (Eddie) of Laurinburg, NC, Paul Patton (Sonya) of Charlotte, NC and Joseph Patton (Tracy) of Laurinburg, NC; her cherished grandchildren Maggie McCaskill (Adam), Chris Hunter (Jennifer), Drew Parham (Holly), Lauren Weaver (Steve), Anna Patton, Jackson Patton, and Aiden Patton; and ten adored great-grandchildren.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Hester Webb; and siblings: Norman, Green, Aurora, Ann, Margaret, Wendell, and James. Beverly was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Barbara Patton Parham, who passed away on December 3, 2024, a daughter whom she loved so much she followed to heaven.
Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium is assisting the Patton family.
