Gibson

Betty Gail Gibson, 69, of Gibson, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 pm. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at St. Johns United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Harold Hunt. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church.

Born May 18, 1949 in Marlboro County, she was the only child of the late Douglas and Dorothy Helms Gibson. She was the third generation to live in her grandparents, Elijah and Ida Smith Gibson’s home place. Betty was a lifelong member of St. John United Methodist Church in Gibson and was a member of the first graduation class of Scotland High School in 1968. During her lifetime she was faced with many challenges and illnesses. She met each one with faith in God, hope, determination, and the motto “I’m not giving up.” Betty enjoyed calling and talking with family and friends on the phone, listening to her scanner and watching television. In her younger days, she liked to walk as a way to exercise and would often drop in to visit family on these walks.

She is survived by her first cousins Kathy Gibson Puckett and Nancy Wever Hughes (Jeffery) of Gibson as well as other cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank all those who were so kind and thoughtful with giving their friendship and time to Betty.

Memorials may be made to Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd., Laurinburg, N.C. 28352.
