Betty Gibson Butler

Betty Gibson Butler, 83, died on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at her son’s home in Newton, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Michael Malpass.  Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Betty will be remembered in the community for Butler Funeral Home.  She was passionate in her role of a funeral director and took pride in assisting families during their time of need.  She was a member of member of New Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed serving her church when she was able.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.  In her spare time, she loved visiting people, travelling to the beach, working in her yard with her flowers and shopping.   Betty was a sharp dressed woman.   It didn’t matter where she was, where she was going, or what she was doing, she was dressed to a tee.

Betty is survived by her son, James “Jamie” Fairley Butler, Jr., and his wife, Jennifer of Newton, IA; her sister, Mary Norris and her husband, Robert of McColl, SC; grandsons, Greg Woodside, Jr. (Stephanie) and Tony Woodside (Summer) both of Laurinburg, and Cadyn Butler of Newton IA; granddaughters, Ashley Alston of Laurinburg and Kailynn Butler of Newton, IA ; and great grandchildren, Brooklyn Woodside, Gracie Woodside, Brianna Stanley, Gavin Stanley, Chris Shiflett, Jr., Rebecca Shiflett and Austin Shiflett.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, James Fairley Butler, Sr.; daughter, Sharon Woodside Alston; grandson, Jacob Butler; and her brothers and sisters, Buddy Gibson, Barbara Lewis, Claudette Beane and Carol Jean Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Youth Program, 11480 Hasty Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
