Mrs. Bessie Ruth Nelson Cranford, 86, of 402 Turnpike Rd., died Tuesday, September 18, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mack Thompson.

She is survived by a son, James W. "Jim" Cranford, Jr. of Carrollton, GA; two daughters, Barbara C. Robertson of Tallahassee, FL and Janice C. Creed of Laurinburg; two brothers, Malcolm C. Nelson of Hickory and Boyce G. Nelson of Alexandria, VA; a sister, Revauda Parks of Troy; seven grandchildren, Robert V. Robertson, Jr. and Michael W. Robertson of Tallahassee, James W. Cranford, III and C. Scott Cranford of Villa Rica, GA, Kimberly C. Boddie of Carrollton, GA, Sandy J. "Sy" Creed of Greensboro, and G. Clay Creed of Laurinburg; 9 great grandchildren.

Born June 7, 1915 in Troy, NC she was a daughter of the late, Robert W. and Bessie Wicker Nelson and widow of the late James W. Cranford. While living in Troy she was a member of the Troy Womena
