Mr. Benjamin Alexander "Ben" White, 76, of 701 McCaskill Avenue died Sunday, September 5, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Centre Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Hix with burial following in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Katherine M. "Kakie" White; two sons, Alex White of Boston, MA and Paul White and wife Carol of Carthage; one sister, Ruth W. Redding of Bennettsville, SC; two grandchildren, Ty White and Ben White of Carthage; five nieces and four nephews.
Born November 7, 1927 in Maxton, he was a son of the late Alex H. and Emily Stewart White. He was a 1944 graduate of Maxton High School and a 1948 graduate of North Carolina State University. Ben worked with Maxton Supply from 1948 until 1953 when he enlisted in the USAF where he served until 1955. He returned to Maxton Supply in 1955 working as farm manager until 1960. In 1960 he went to work with the United States Department of Agriculture, Plant Protection and Quarantine, serving in Raeford, Maxton, Laurinburg and Bennettsville. Ben was a life-long member of Centre Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was the Moderator of the final meeting of Fayetteville Presbytery.
